Novia

Font Bureau, Boston, Massachusetts, 2005

Description

The English copperplate script came back into its own with the advent of photocomposition, then digital techniques. Gone are limitations on kerning and joining strokes imposed by the type founder’s mold. In Novia, Cyrus Highsmith has made the most of this freedom, returning to the delicate life of original manuscript forms. A rich set of alternative characters is automatically reached through OpenType support. Novia and Novia Light make up a delicate series with a vibrant life. Like all formal scripts, Novia is intended for use at display sizes. The Light is most effective at 200 point and up. Novia was commissioned to grace the pages of Martha Stewart Weddings.

Juror Notes

So elegant.
Stands out from the current available scripts.
It has details that make it modern—for example, diamond-shaped dot.
Very delicate and very confident.
