Richard Thompson - “You? Me? Us?”
Capitol Records In-House Art Dept., Hollywood, California, 1995
Description
Richard Thompson embodies a rich history of music dating back to his days with Fairport Convention. Known as a guitar god in some circles, a folk hero in others, our job visually was to speak of his artistry and integrity, while conceptually incorporating the album title “You? Me? Us?” (about relationships) into our graphics. We also were looking for ways to showcase an unadorned acoustic CD and an electric CD in the same package. The illustrator was called to help explore that brief and he was able to artistically collage the concept for the front cover while creating a portrait of Richard on the back to thread his Dadaist style throughout. The design had to reflect the same vernacular with restraint and spontaneity. Collages of type and a few illustrations and photos were made, hoping for no typos or revisions.
