Corian is a DuPont synthetic best known by interior designers as a durable white material for couontertops in kitchens and baths. Pentagram challenged this preconception when the product made its debut at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in 1996.

A freestanding wall of Corian in colors developed by Pentagram runs through the center of the booth, spelling out “Corian?” A second, curved wall runs perpendicular to the first, anwering “Corian!” In standard whites and off-whites, this wall features examples of routing, sandblasting, and carving, and is dramatically backlit to demonstrate the material’s translucent capabilities. Complementing the booth are pieces of well-known designer furniture, rendered in black and white Corian.

The trade show visitor leaves a witness to Corian’s surprising untapped design potential.
