The Smashing Pumpkins “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness”

The Smashing Pumpkins “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

Frank Olinsky, Brooklyn, New York, 1996

Description

It was a real honor to be asked by the Smashing Pumpkins to work on this package. The band spent a lot of time and creative energy on the project and it deserved a package with magical qualities. During our first phone call—before I ever heard a note—Billy Corgan described the album to me as “psychedelic music by a heavy metal band from the 1920s.” The illustrations, typography, and papers used all reflect this. I did my best to come up with something timeless, not trendy.
