Little Lit: Strange Stories for Strange Kids

Little Lit: Strange Stories for Strange Kids

Françoise Mouly, Art Spiegelman, New York, New York, 2001

Description

The challenge in editing and producing the Little Lit anthology was to gather contributions by the top artists and writers working today and encourage them to do their best work while appealing to children. The challenge in designing the book was to establish an overarching look while giving each individual style its due. We designed breathy headers and bouncy page numbers. The contents spread was handled by superimposing one enlarged detail from the cover onto many small details from the inside. The cover was perfect for a book of strange stories. We had to pressure Charles Burns into giving us a “cute” monster, as he wasn’t sure he had it in him. He certainly did.
