Q Action Poster

Q Action Poster

M.A.D., Sausalito, California, 1995

Description

While very much at risk, many young gay and bisexual men in San Francisco do not believe HIV is their problem. This poster, which was displayed inside city buses, made explicit the connection between HIV and politics and thereby motivated young men to take action—both individually and as a group—to fight HIV and homophobia. The message, rich and complex, was ideal for consumption during 20-minute bus rides. While the poster was quite successful in achieving its specific goal—to attract new volunteers to Q Action, the young men’s program of STOP AIDS Project—it also worked to shape the community-wide dialogue by queer men about HIV.
