Il nome di Marina

Il nome di Marina

Mucca Design, New York, New York, 2005

Description

The brief for this story, whose title translates as “Marina’s Name,” indicated that the cover required a simple, soft and dreamlike treatment, as the story is in the magical realism tradition and is aimed at politically conscious women. As the story revolves around a once-beautiful seaside village now overrun with political corruption and industrial pollution, the waves are intended to hark back to the beauty and hypnotic movement of the sea. In addition, the hand-drawn letters on uncoated paper help to convey a feeling of a fairytale or a hand-written letter. “Once upon a time . . .”

Juror Notes

The simplicity and charm of the hand-drawn title and waves are hard to resist. Expressive movement of lettering and line art convey simplistic yet elegant atmosphere.
