Excerpts

Excerpts

M/W, New York, New York, 1998

Description

Each year, Champion does a promotion to make designers aware of the complementary colors and textures throughout its eight grades. Previously, Champion had made full-size dummy books and packaged them in bulky folders or bags, and the promotion often weighed several pounds. We streamlined the piece by creating one small but thick book of “excerpts” from their different grades, formatted to be reminiscent of a dictionary with tabbed chapters. The pages have perforated lines that can be used for writing, etc. The grades of paper are identified on the spine, which provided a design element that causes people to turn the book over and over in their hands—as well as a significant cost savings over printing the identifications on each page.
