2wice: Everybody Dance Now

Pentagram Design, New York, New York, 2009

Description

2wice: Everybody Dance Now is a portfolio of photographs by Martin Parr that captures people dancing at celebrations around the world—in nightclubs, dance competitions, parades and parties, from Blackpool to São Paolo. The book’s metallic rainbow cover evokes a flamboyant party decoration, one so reflective that readers can glimpse themselves in its surface. Inside, the layout continues the silver and rainbow theme as it references the postcards Parr is so well known for collecting.

Juror Notes

Is ugly the new beautiful? In Martin Parr’s world it is. Every “wrong” choice that can be made is made here, and transmuted into a choice that seems inevitably “right.” Whimsical as it is memorable.
