Communi-Card 2

Richard Poulin Design Group Inc., New York, New York, 1995

Description

Developed with New York’s Mount Sinai Medical Center, this visual tool facilitates communication between emergency service and cardiac care staff and non-English-speaking patients or those with acute speech/hearing problems or chronic communication deficits. Colorful pictograms illustrate physical, medical, and emotional symptoms, while a simplified human figure targets the symptom’s location. Simple questions in English and a second language along with an alphabet on the back of the card allow the patient, care provider, or family member to spell out simple messages. Currently, the card is being used in over 200 hospitals and health-care facilities in the United States and Canada.
