Description

Michael Vanderbyl, chair, is dean of the School of Design at the California College of Arts and Crafts, his alma mater. He has gained international prominence in the design field as a practitioner, educator, critic, and advocate. Since 1973, Vanderbyl Design in San Francisco has evolved into a multi-discipline design firm specializing in graphics, packaging, signage, interiors, showrooms, furniture, textile, and fashion apparel. A shortened client list includes Amoco, AIA, Disney, Esprit, Hickory Business Furniture, IBM, Polaroid, San Francisco Design Center, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Sun Microsystems. Michael's showroom, furniture, and lighting designs have received many prestigious awards, while his printed work has been recognized in every major design competition in the United States and Europe and is part of the permanent collections of the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, the San Francisco MOMA, and Die Neu Sammlung in Munich.
