Cut to the Chase Show Open

E! Entertainment Television, Los Angeles, California, 1995

Description

Cut to the Chase was intended to appeal to an E! viewer with a sense of humor who loves the early film classics, but never has the time to watch them. The demographic is fairly broad (18-49 both male and female), so the graphics and program needed to appeal to a large group of viewers.
This show open was designed to emulate the concept behind E!'s on air program, Cut to the Chase. The thirty-minute show offers a fast-forward, comic condensation of a classic feature-length. The visuals are playful and reiterate the idea of film being cut. Dancing scissors remind the viewer of the Busby Berkeley era. Heavy film sound conventions were also emphasized in the audio track. We are extremely proud of this animation because we were able to employ different animation techniques yet still keep the animation fairly simple and approachable to all viewers.
