The task was to develop from raw numerical data a visualization of how kidneys at different stages of development respond to oversufficiencies and deficiencies of three essential elements. It needed to be multilingual to be used as a theme and souvenir poster for an international symposium of pediatric nephrologists. The poster’s objective of being a teaching tool for residents in pediatric nephrology and for parents of children with kidney problems was realized by the development of a special notation at variance with conventional physician’s shorthand.
