Curiosities: Volume 1.1

Tandemodus, Chicago, Illinois, 2008

Description

Seeking refuge in knowledge, Tandemodus researches, writes and designs on topics that stem from observation of everyday occurrences. Project 23.5 is the first that originated as a simple documentation idea and grew into much more. Our studio, located on Chicago’s South Side, has a breathtaking view of the city and its surrounding neighborhoods, and is ideal for observing nature in an urban environment. As autumn approached, we decided to document the foliage as it turned colors. We captured 60 photos over two months, at the same time of day and from the same position—visual evidence of the changing seasons, the passing of time and the wonder of nature.

The platform for Curiosities allows us the opportunity to take an idea and challenge it to be something more. What began as a visual collection of seasonal changes in nature uncovered a story far more elaborate and compelling than we could have ever imagined—a testament to the design process we work through for every project, big or small.
