The Bold Italic is an online publication that covers culture, politics and relevant news in the Bay Area. The site’s main goal is to capture the print magazine experience in the online space by allowing designers to create singularly unique and visually engaging designs for the daily featured articles.

The design of “Sugar Bowl” seeks to capture the sugar rush of eating such decadent treats, in both visceral and scientific terms.

The Bold Italic’s use of customized art direction for what is generally a generic, automated process is delightful, surprising and refreshing. The web needs more of this.
