Though I think the title refers more to a field guide, and the idea of a field guide of characters and personalities instead of birds, I decided to pursue this from an innocent child’s view… more or a second-grader’s paper, so well written that it gets a sticker. There are three stickers that were printed and the books varied in appearance so slightly that most bookstore owners didn’t even notice. I know some devoted Lorrie Moore fans who had to buy all three versions. I am one of those fans. This author collects characters and literary images the way people college objects at flea markets.
