Visual resources from Federico García Lorca’s life were very scarce and difficult to acquire, especially given that his estate was located across the ocean in Spain. Through sheer happenstance, the creative team learned that a friend owned a book that had an extensive collection of Lorca drawings in it. Also a recent hire from Spain provided a host of beautiful, old Spanish books and the design of the CD package was inspired by the tactile, personal quality of these texts. The outcome is a booklike package that incorporates Euro-Spanish textures, Lorca’s drawings, photography of Ben Sidran and Lorca and classic yet playful typography. Although artwork was limited and brought in from vastly different resources, as the package came together what elements were available seemed to fit perfectly into song concepts and spreads.
