Description

Seeing Is Believing is the first retrospective monograph of this very singular artist. Designed to accompany a major traveling exhibition of the same title, the book is sectionalized by series to reveal the working process of this latter-day illusionist. Muniz works with unusual materials in his photography—thread, sugar, chocolate, wire, tomato sauce—and draws from a host of visual influences from popular culture, film, art history, and photography. Therefore, numerous illustrations were used within the extensive texts to illuminate the plate section of the book. The cover image plays off the nature of illusionism and the title of the exhibition.
