I care as much about the physical, tactile properties of the jacket as I do about the visuals. I created the black label motif to refer to the nameplates on museum frames and complement Ruth Marten’s beautiful illustration for the jacket. Selecting the right paper stock on which to print this design was of the utmost importance. I wanted the final jacket to have texture, feel good to the touch, without sacrificing the color or detail of the art. The shiny black stamping materials for the label was chosen to contrast with the paper surface—a play of light against a matte blue-gray background.
