Description

The tales in this collection, completed in 1959, are the result of Steinbeck’s intention to render Malory “into a modern English, while….trying to re-create a rhythm and tone which to the modern ear will have the same effect as the Middle English did on the fifteenth-century ear.” As Malory tightened and revised the twelfth-century French romances for his time, Steinbeck has reworked Malory for our own. The traditional Celtic design motifs which Cynthia Krupat adopted as decoration have an appropriately clean modern look
