Description

This massive book is a compilation of new essays, excerpted texts from letters and novels, Nabokov’s lepidopteral findings and various images. A definite challenge was the quantity of different types of texts: lists, letters, doodles and essays; color images, black-and-white photos, captions and poems; scientific graphs, charts and illustrations. It all had to flow smoothly in a coherent, readable and comfortable text without appearing overwhelming. In the end, I had a pile of manuscript bits and pieces about four feet high in my studio. I am pleased I was allowed to keep the generous margins, which were designed to accommodate photos and captions; for many pages, however, they are simply empty, generous and spacious.
