Description

In photographing the black people from the Lang Syne Plantation in South Carolina, Doris Ulmann documents her respect for life lived close to the soil, for a people confronting the forces of nature and the supernatural with fortitude, human warmth and community. The text, A New Heaven and a New Earth, was specially written for this volume by Pulitzer Prize winning author Robert Coles.
