Description

Dutch Journal is a collaboration between designer David Betz and artist Malcolm Cochran. The goal was to produce a compelling object that documented the artist’s work and experience in the Netherlands.

All of the decisions about the look and feel of this limited edition grew out of a shared aesthetic of the designer and artist. Sizing the book to fit the artist’s tastes as well as press size, ganging the four-color work on one form, and having the artist sign and place the cover labels were all cost-saving measures that allowed this book to be produced within tight budget constraints. This understated design (no Photoshop!) supports the artist’s narrative about this period in his life.
