We wanted to convey the beauty of the woodcuts as well as possible for this catalogue of the work of one of the major book artists of our time. Fletcher Manley at The Stinehour Press made excellent color separations from the 35mm slides supplied by the artist, and the Stinehour Press did their usual exemplary job of printing the color images on a high-quality uncoated paper (Monadnock Dulcet). For the typography I chose the slightly bouncy and irregular Garamond 3, which went well with the handmade woodcuts. All the work was done in close collaboration with the artist, who deserves a good deal of the credit for the success of this book. With tireless energy he oversaw every aspect of the production, including creating a special two-color image for the catalogue cover. Working with him was always a pleasure, and cemented a long friendship.
