We wanted this volume of primarily nineteenth-century images to convey both their time and place within the context of this book design, yet appear clearly contemporary on the surface. By choosing the egg-yolk yellow color for a cover design, we felt its oddness at once transcended the time and place of its contents, yet gave the book object a richness that is timeless.
