Description

This book had to be produced to coincide with a large exhibition about installation art at the St. Louis Art Museum. The problem was that the installation of the 10 works would not be complete until opening day, so we had to create a slipcase that would contain a book of essays and previously completed projects by the artists, and that could then accommodate a sequence of inserts that documented the newly commissioned projects. It was a challenge to make a book package that would be “completed” at a later date, and to make it look deliberate and enriching to the book rather than detracting from it. The slipcase allowed for 10 inserts that take advantage of being able to make larger, posterlike presentations of this very environmental work—something that would be awkward to do in a conventionally bound book.
