Description

Evelyn Lau is known as a controversial and poignant author, so what better way to reflect her memoir than by using just words? The design solution is a literal translation of the title, Inside Out. The book itself is the author’s outward “reflections on a life so far,” while the dust cover features the “inside” of the book using the author’s own prose. The result—a stark and serene book cover with a dash of brilliant red—mimics the reality of Lau’s life. Once the concept was approved, the most critical aspect of the book was the use of the transparent dust cover, which allowed the title to be layered. This also allowed for a page from a pivotal moment in Lau’s memoir to be exposed and “reflected” on the cover.
