Description

“61 Ways of Looking at Poverty” was featured as a cover essay in Choices magazine, published by the United Nations Development Programme. The idea stemmed from the invitation issued by Emerson, Wajdowicz Studios and the UNDP to select photographers from around the world to submit image that best represented their interpretation of the concept of poverty.

In dealing with this enormous (if not overwhelming) issue, we wanted to avoid the banal, tear-jerking images that unfortunately are usually associated with photography related to that condition. The visual essay was accompanied by written commentaries from all over the world. It became a highly subjective, often surprising and emotional representation of poverty.
