Description

In approaching a representation of the work of fine artists, so much of the overall aesthetic is already determined by that artist’s body of work. In the case of Nicolas Africano, the work is shaped by close observation, the development of an “interior view” of life and experience and a subtle, highly evolved execution—all of which formed the basis for the printed piece. We used letterpress to evoke a human presence and the handmade, one-of-a-kind quality of Africano’s work. We then made certain that none of the layout or typographic treatments intruded on the represented pieces, hoping to allow the work to speak for itself, which we think it does.
