This was the second of three issues of the New York Times Magazine devoted to celebrating our 100th anniversary. This issue presented the best of a century of distinguished photojournalism, portraiture, and fashion photography. The challenge was to represent this enormous time span in a limited number of pages. Each chapter conveyed a major theme and opened with large, powerful images and type. Subsequent pages preserved the individual beauty of each image, while creating juxtapositions that informed the reader. The cover conveyed the blending of distinguished images and themes.
