Description

Hillbilly Hollywood is about the country stars in Hollywood in the ’30s and ’40s, who, along with their tailors, set the standard for country and western fashion today. The cover needed to immediately convey the glitz and sparkle of the fashions while not forgetting the down-home quality of the musicians. We deliberately made the cover as flashy and gaudy as the costumes were, but behind all the sparkle and rhinestones were simple country performers, one of whom looks out through the die-cut “H.” The editor asked for fringe. We gave her rhinestones instead. We all wanted over-the-top, and we got it.
