This Maryland Institute poster is sent to high schools in an effort to recruit art students. Art students are typically hell bent on being cartoonists, so the back of the poster depicts significant body parts done in various “vulgar” styles. The two sides are meant to run side by side at student recruitment functions and are connected by the tag line “Pull yourself together: you are the part that makes it art.”
The full-color front depicts the complete mature student as a marching, organic art monster. The reversible nature of this poster allows it to communicate to a younger audience that hasn’t quite grown up yet, but wants to.
