For the ACD’s annual Design Student Conference - to be held in Atlanta before the 1996 Summer Olympics - devising a concept for the announcement was a snap. The parallel was drawn between running a race to win and each student’s pursuit of design excellence. The tight design and production schedule was less of a snap. To avoid time-consuming separations, every element was kept to line-art form. The chosen colors echo the five colors of the Olympic rings, while two small icons in the corner comment ironically on the upcoming power struggle in peach city of Atlanta. The large graphic treatment of the image and title allow the poster to read well from a distance. To appeal to the audience of art students overloaded with images and information, the message was kept simple.
