365: AIGA Year in Design 25 serves as documentation of the selections from AIGA's 2004 competitions, yet it also heralds, in form and content, the introduction of a deeper resource on design than previous annuals. This accessible volume invites the reader to the AIGA Design Archives, launched online in December 2004 with the selections from this year and the previous three years. The removable jacket doubles as a promotional poster for the contents and the digital archive.
The design solution generated from the concept of the book as gallery for other people’s work; it is less about the book itself, and more about celebrating the outstanding work in it. For this reason, the stronger focus was on the remarkably beautiful type treatment as opposed to the imagery.
Combines a couple of devices that we’ve seen over the years. Type organized as if pulled from an old type specimen book, and the cover folds out into a poster. Yet it looks entirely new. And the fact that it’s an AIGA annual and only 5x5 in size makes it even more unique.
