The title for this book of Mark Haddon’s poetry seems to suggest three different covers, and, as it turns out, everyone at Vintage Books (the book’s editor, Marty Asher, and, as always, the intrepid art director, John Gall) was willing to go the extra mile and try something unorthodox. So: three different covers simultaneously on the same book, and my first book cover with moving parts. Obviously, we had numerous production issues to contend with, and thanks go out to the splendid production manager, Andy Hughes, who was the epitome of patience and ingenuity.
We couldn’t stop playing with the wheel . . . great solution to a three-title design challenge.
