The author’s previous book had quite a bold graphic cover. I wanted this cover to be a continuation, but to also stand up in its own right. The text contains a lot of beautiful and striking imagery, so I already had lots to work with. One such image is a pair of hands with “yes” and “no” written on each palm. With his previous book, I had tried to get the type to push at the edges of the cover. This time, I thought it would be great to have it pushing at the edges of another form, the hand. It’s also always nice to fight with the rectangular format of a book, so with all the type having been placed within the silhouette, the rectangle hopefully becomes irrelevant.
Probably one of the most recognizable covers from the past year. Iconic.
