Collection
(2006) 50 Books/50 Covers of 2005

Description

This collection of books is consecrated to the founding authors of literature and philosophy from the 20th century. It was derived from L’Arc, a 30-year highly respected review of the intellectual European landscape.

I wanted these books to be as precious in appearance as in content. I wanted the covers to represent the classic authors and themes but at the same time show that their ideas have modern meaning and still ring true today. It is for this reason that I chose a simple format with single lettering, the initial of the author’s name. I created the design of the letter using five different typographies recomposed together.

Juror Notes

The simplicity of these covers—the single embossed initial of the author—is intriguing and artfully done. Such economy and beauty is rare.
