The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts is an annual summer celebration of the visual and performing arts. There’s sidewalk art, gallery art and lots of performances all over and food vendors. It’s estimated that the festival event brings an additional 150,000 people into the area. Over the years the poster has evolved into a commemorative function for the festival rather than an advertising piece. Because they are collectibles, they are made 24”x36” so they fit a standard format (and a standard sheet size to be printed with little waste). Each of the twenty three years I have done the poster I have tried to create a colorful image that spiritually relates to the vitality of the summer event. I also try to create images that appeal to a variety of different audiences which would come to the festival and keep the poster as a momento. The design is reproduced in full color. I must put the logo of the sponsor and the festival on it, as well as title, place and dates. Good clients make good design; the festival has been a wonderful client.
