The client needed an international broadcast brand communication to be used in Europe and Japan. Our design solution was based on an idealized moment in snowboarding. Riding in the woods with your friends is an incredibly authentic and soulful experience. The freedom of this type of riding is nearly impossible to capture on film, so our design solution was to use animation to capture a sense of motion and energy in an imagined space inhabited by snow monkeys, Yeti and other woodland friends. Geoff McFetridge was the illustrator and it was his first exploration into animation. Our initial intent was to merge and blur the boundaries between an imagined animated landscape and real-world film depiction. When we saw the beauty of the animation and its ability to communicate a feeling when coupled with progressive sound design, color and typography, it became clear that we should remain entirely in animation.
