Description

A “coupon-style” 11-card catalogue—printed in 2-color and inserted into a Ziploc bag—was produced on a shoe-string budget to accompany “Byproduct: Deviation from Design.” The exhibition featured nine commercial artists and posed questions about the utility, need, aesthetics and impetus of the design process. The catalogue, which looks at the gimmickry of design and marketing and its associated pop iconography, was sold for $6.99.

Juror Notes

“It’s so charming and executed really well. It’s about theme and variation. It uses really choice type that seems pared down from something baroque.”

“I love the subtle fades that look like they’ve been sitting out in the sun.”

“If this was from Europe, it would come out of East Germany. Everything is considered. It combines Letraset starbursts with desktop publishing themes.”
