Description

The challenge: how could I present 90-or-so photographs—each perfectly square and similar in appearance—in an engaging way, without betraying the photographer’s intent? And what should I do with those dreaded footnotes?

With the help of the photographer, a hierarchy of images was decided upon. Some worked better as part of a group; others were more meaningful on their own. Solid-bleed pages were peppered throughout to indicate shifts in time and terrain.

Soft-colored footnotes were moved into the thumb margins, where they quietly, but effectively, get the job done.

This collection of images rewards in proportion to the time spent perusing it. My goal was to create a framework that facilitates this process of discovery.
