(2002) 50 Books/50 Covers of 2001

Description

This catalogue was for an exhibition of great books from publicly accessible collections in Los Angeles. The books were organized into a set of broad themes, and then chronologically within those themes; it was this categorizing that set the major design parameter for the book. We reshot every book that was to be depicted in the catalogue, and we tried to emphasize the physicality of the books as objects.

The entire book is one large checklist, with every book in the show listed, and the books that are depicted are signed with a silhouette of their shape to key the reader to the caption that accompanies the book. Process color backgrounds are used to differentiate the major organizational categories.
