Cicada Pumping Its Wings is part of a larger site-specific public art project created for the St. Louis Art Fair. Installed in light-rail transit station advertising spaces, the ongoing poster series enlarged the spatial and temporal flow of the very short-run and localized art fair, and served to bring a long-term focus to the Arts in Transit public art program. Each poster was crafted to interact with the transit stations in poetic and whimsical ways, with enlarged images of the minute wild creatures from our urban environment. The cicada itself is part of my ongoing process of specimen collection. In the time it took to make two high-resolution scans, the newly hatched cicada fully pumped its wings.
