The concept behind this piece was to use a real teen’s diary as a sort of narrative for a fashion story. The design approach to this story consists of collages of words, images and drawings. This is the result of a collaboration involving two illustrators, a photographer, an art director, a fashion director and a teenage girl. We brought the words of Sophie’s diary to life by spending a few days with her and her friends in their hometown, Mission Viejo, California. All of us pulled up to Sophie’s house with a truckload of clothes, and, as you can imagine, the teens went crazy trying things on. The photographs and the illustrations were created while the teens ran around school and took us to their favorite hangouts over a three-day period. This collaboration was a very special, intimate experience, and we successfully achieved our goal of publishing a truly unique fashion feature.
