This Is Not It is a collection of short stories by Lynne Tillman that takes its inspiration from contemporary art. Though the book had to be absolutely readable, it also had to illustrate 23 diverse works by artists like Barbara Kruger, Vik Muniz and Jessica Stockholder. Thus, This Is Not It became a book with 24 covers—one at the start of each of 23 stories, plus the jacket, which avoided the problem of singling out one artwork by using a Polaroid self-portrait of the author, the title scrawled across her face.
