The Good Women of China presents a journalistic account of the oppressed lives of Chinese women. I wanted the solution to be intimate, to express how the women are bound, abused, disregarded, traded and trapped not only by a rich cultural history but also by governmental oppression, both past and present. I wanted to express the beauty of the women, not the ugliness that is their lives. A particular challenge was putting the stupid quote on the jacket at the last minute. Hardcover books should not have quotes on the front of the jacket; very tacky!
