Working closely with the Dutch photographer Rineke Dijkstra, we created a book of her beach portraits, a series of pictures featuring adolescents posed at the water’s edge. All of the book’s details, from the sea-glass palette to the way the type sits on the page, were a calculated response to the exquisite (yet slightly awkward) pictures themselves. The book was produced using high-resolution color separations so that the final reproductions would match the original photographs as closely as possible.
