Secret Rendezvous is the third in a series of redesigned backlist covers for the author Kobo Abe. The designs and illustrations are the result of a collaborative process between Ned Drew and myself. They were produced via e-mail correspondence. A piece of art was sent back and forth—with each person adding something to the collage—until we reached a mutually agreed-upon finish. This method, created by Ned, utilizing imagery from the book, enabled us to come up with unexpected and oddly juxtaposed artwork that paralleled the often bizarre and dreamlike worlds created in Abe’s books.
