Description

Illustrator Katherine Dunn’s personal desire was to have a website that gently encouraged visitors to think about nature by enjoying it. Red Canoe printed Dunn’s illustrations, created three-dimensional prototypes, digitally photographed them and Flash scripted the site section housing these distinctive pieces. All of the site’s sections were named to convey Dunn’s charming and playful personality, and each of the four main “portfolio” sections were color-coded and contain unique animations. Photographic navigational elements were used to provide contrast to the illustrative site elements. By rolling over each of these photographic links, visitors are greeted by a distinctive nature-inspired illustration presented as a quick gif animation that prepares guests for the longer intricate Flash illustrations within each section. Thinking of the splash/welcome page as a book cover, we designed it last.
