Description

You never know what’s going to affect your design. After I worked with the Butthole Surfers on “Electriclarryland,” the lead singer told me a story about the first single. A friend of the band was walking his dog and a street person came up to him and said, “What’s your little dog’s name, Sonny...Pepper?” While recording “Pepper,” which was still untitled, someone in the studio said, “What’s your little song’s name, Sonny...Pepper?” Hence, the title of the single. When asked to design the digipak for Pepper, I immediately thought of the Prairie Dog photo (from “Electriclarryland”) with dirt all over his nose, looking like he would sneeze any minute.
